Phishing Alert

Capital One has confirmed new phishing attacks targeting our customers this week.

Capital One uses online authentication methodologies that are compliant with the latest multifactor authentication guidance. Unfortunately, even these security measures can sometimes be compromised when users are tricked into sharing confidential personal or account-related information.

Capital One reminds you to do your part in preventing unauthorized online access of your accounts by taking the following steps: never share confidential personal, account, or security information via e-mail or an unsolicited phone call, even if it appears to be from Capital One. Remember the safest way to get to an authorized web site is to type the web address in your browser, because hyperlinks in an e-mail can appear to be going to a Capital One site but actually redirect to a fraudulent site.

Unsolicited requests to provide the following types of confidential information should be considered suspicious:
  • User ID
  • User password
  • Account numbers
  • Answers to security questions
  • Updated information on your accounts
  • Token security codes
Be aware that e-mail scams may:
  • Display a link that appears to be to a Capital One site but actually redirects to a fraudulent site
  • Offer a service claiming it can be provided only with receipt of your confidential business information
  • Ask you to click on a hyperlink to complete a form asking for confidential personal, account or security information
  • Offer a service claiming it can be provided only with receipt of your confidential information
  • Threaten to close your business account unless you provide confidential information immediately

If you suspect you have replied to a fraudulent e-mail or phone call, contact Capital One Online Banking Support at 1-877-442-3764 or by submitting a secure message while logged into Online Banking.

Remember, it is Capital One's policy never to request confidential personal, account or security information via e-mail or by unsolicited phone call.
